Spilling Ink presents Phani Narayana Vadali, one of India's foremost veena artists, bringing him to Washington, DC for a special program that was not to be missed. Spilling Ink co-artistic directors Vijay Palaparty and Nalini Prakash collaborated with him in an exploration of the harmony between classical South Indian music and dance traditions. This collaboration produced an intimate sharing of one of South India's oldest classical musical instruments, the veena. Phani Narayana was accompanied on the mridangam by the accomplished percussionist Srikar Chittari.
After the performance, a gathering of Spilling Ink family and friends took place to celebrate our 15th anniversary, as we mindfully existed with and emerged from the world's conditions- in an effort to cultivate, nurture and rejoice in artistic and cultural expression. SI.15: Rooted in tradition. Created with vision. Performed for transformation.
This project is funded in part by the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
