Spilling Ink weaves memorable tales from Indian folklore and mythology that unfold through traditional South Indian classical dance forms. An intricate language of hand gestures combined with dramatic facial expressions takes audiences on a colorful journey to India. Melodic music including rhythmic percussion, colorful costuming along with narration in English embellishes the program. An interactive way for all ages to learn about India and its culture, the program features renowned artists Nalini Prakash and Vijay Palaparty from India and the United States, whose performances and outreach programs have toured internationally.
OBJECTIVE OF PERFORMANCE
Students will examine traditional stories from Indian folklore and mythology using the universal concept of storytelling through music and dance. They will also identify Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dance as traditional Indian dance forms that bring epic tales to life.
