Dance to Heal

An Evening of Dance Therapy

Information, Performances and Experientials

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Embassy of India, Washington, DC

In 'Dance to Heal', Nalini Prakash shares her experiences working with individuals from diverse cultures and populations through dance therapy. Her insights emphasize the importance of recognizing and adapting to varying cultural patterns among populations in order to have the most impact in the therapeutic process. Such multicultural perspectives also dovetails the theory and practice of DMT, enhancing its place as a powerful and impactful avenue to explore to heal the mind through the body...and the body through the mind.

Nalini is also joined by Vijay Palaparty (Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Spilling Ink), Jody Wager (President Elect of the American Dance Therapy Association), and Naomi Nim (Licensed Professional Counselor and Dance Therapist).

This event was produced in collaboration with the American Dance Therapy Association. Founded in 1966, ADTA is a professional organization dedicated to the profession of dance/movement therapy. The purpose of the ADTA is to establish, maintain, and support the highest standards of professional identity and competence among dance/movement therapists by promoting education, training, practice, and research. The Association provides avenues of communication among dance/movement therapists and those working in related fields, and increases public awareness of dance/movement therapy. www.adta.org
